Heirloom Farmers Markets is celebrating two years of serving the community at the Rillito Park Food Pavilion.

The celebration will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, November 6, and will include a visit from Pima County Board Supervisor Sharon Bronson, a featured chef demo from PY Steakhouse Executive Chef Ryan Clark, and live bluegrass music from local group Cadillac Mountain.

With the help of Pima County, Heirloom became Tucson’s first permanent farmers market at Rillito Park. The pavilion highlights local food in the Tucson area, and has helped the economic status of Tucson’s food system.

Although Heirloom has been at Rillito Park for two years, Heirloom has served all of Southern Arizona for 17 years. More than 80 vendors participate in the farmers market, and over 1500 guests visit the market weekly. The organization also manages two additional weekly farmers markets at Trail Dust Down and Steam Pump Ranch.

Additionally, thanks to a $10,000 grant from Wholesome Wave, Heirloom now accepts SNAP dollars, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

A recent press release states, “These dollars don’t just buy local food – they end up in the hands of nearby growers, and then radiate out through the community, bolstering the economy and improving public health!”

Future plans for the market include raising funds to build another ramada, in addition to upgrades to the pavilion and surrounding areas.

Guests can find Heirloom Farmers Markets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following locations:

Friday — Trail Dust Town (Home of Pinnacle Peak), 6541 E. Tanque Verde Rd.
Saturday — Oro Valley (Steam Pump Ranch), 10901 N. Oracle Rd.
Sunday — Rillito Park (Food Pavilion), 4502 N. 1st Ave.
“The last 2 years have been absolutely amazing and Heirloom is just getting warmed up.”
