A Weekend of Fun! Tucson Tandem Weekend Fall 2015
BANNER – UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER PRESENTS “TUCSON TANDEM” A FULL WEEKEND OF FUN OCTOBER 31ST AND NOVEMBER 1ST WITH VIVA LA LOCAL FOOD FESTIVAL & CYCLOVIA TUCSON
Taking place Saturday, October 31st with the Heirloom Farmers Markets’ Viva la Local Food Festival and Sunday, November 1st with Living Streets Alliance’s Cyclovia Tucson, the “Tucson Tandem” is a full weekend of fun celebrating joyous local food and five miles of car-free city streets for vibrant, active public space.
Christina Geare, Marketing Manager for Banner — University Medical Center says, “just like Banner — University Medical Center, the Tucson Tandem weekend promotes community, health and wellness, active living and sustainability – all of which are fundamental to the mission of Banner — University Medical Center as a partner in the Tucson community.”
Taking place Saturday, October 31st, the Viva La Local Food Festival showcases more than 25 of Tucson’s top restaurants, 60+ farmers market vendors, local beer and wine, and local music on the East Field at Rillito Park. Admission is $6, and kids under age 12 enter free. Festival goers can shop Baja Arizona’s finest farmers market and conveniently store their fresh purchases at the complimentary Veggie Valet before exploring the mecca of restaurants. With all plates, wines, and beers priced at $5 each, the event encourages attendees to sample and share a wide variety of culinary offerings while enjoying a festive atmosphere complete with live music from Tucson Jazz Institute, 8 Minutes to Burn, The Bennu, and Southbound Pilot. For those who choose to ride their bike to the festival, conveniently located along The Loop shared-use path, Living Streets Alliance will provide complimentary, full-service bike valet.
Then, on Sunday, November 1st, Living Streets Alliance presents Cyclovia Tucson. The popular biannual “open streets” event gives people from the greater Tucson region the chance to enjoy great weather, see neighbors, friends and people from throughout the area, and get a little exercise – all on city streets that are closed to car traffic and open to walkers, joggers, cyclists, skaters and all other forms of people-powered movement. In 2014, more than 50,000 people attended one of two Cyclovia events held in different locations around the Tucson metro area.
There is no official start or end to the Cyclovia route and participants are encouraged to access the event from any point along the 2.6-mile route. Dozens of free activities, entertainment, food trucks, live music, and DJs line the route providing a little bit of something for everyone. Bring the entire family and explore your city!
Banner – University Medical Center will be on site at each event hosting a series of engaging activities for people of all ages.
