For the Love of Growing Larry’s Veggies
Larry and his wife Eunice started selling at the Farmers Market in 2006, but have been growing vegetables for the last 40 years. Larry’s Veggies is farming in Marana, Arizona. They grow all natural vegetables – meaning their produce is grown herbicide and pesticide free. Both Larry and Eunice had full-time jobs, besides gardening, when they started selling their garden produce. Eventually, Larry was able to retire and grow vegetables full time! He can’t help it, he just loves to grow stuff!
Every summer they grow various chile peppers, habaneros, cucumbers, okra, summer squash, onions and sweet melons. Eunice is often heard to say, “You never know what we will bring to the markets; the garden dictates what we will bring when it is good and ready!” When asked what is Larry and Eunice’s favorite market memory their response is this: “ One year ago Heirloom Farmers Market was kicked out of St. Philip’s Plaza, we joined forces with our fellow farmers and vendors and started one week later at Rillito Park. Our customers came in support of us and our customers continue to support our efforts while we continue to grow bigger with each passing year. We started at the market with just one small table, and now we have grown to 2 tents with 6 tables loaded with produce! That’s really cool!”
Visit Eunice and Larry at all of Heirloom Farmers Markets including Trail Dust Town on Fridays, Saturdays in Oro Valley, and Sundays at the Rillito Park Farmers Market Pavilion. Enjoy fresh, healthy, and local eating!
